Rosacea

What are the symptoms of rosacea?

More than 14 million Americans have rosacea, according to the American Academy of Dermatology. Rosacea is an inflammatory condition that leads to flushing and redness that usually occurs in the center of your face. You may also experience:

  • Overly sensitive skin
  • Skin swelling and tenderness
  • Visible broken blood vessels
  • Stinging or burning sensations
  • Dry or scaly patches

Rosacea tends to start around your nose and can quickly spread to your cheeks, forehead, and chin. Eventually, you may experience flare-ups on your chest and back.

Are there different types of rosacea?

All types of rosacea result in skin redness and inflammation. With erythematotelangiectatic rosacea, you usually develop tiny broken vessels on your face that make you appear severely flushed. Papulopustular rosacea results in acne breakouts and bumps filled with fluid.

If rosacea leads to skin thickening and hardened bumps, you might have phymatous rosacea. Once rosacea spreads into your eyelids — ocular rosacea — your eyelids become swollen, making it look like you have a sty. In some cases, your eyes become red and irritated as bumps on your eyelids rub against them. Over time, ocular rosacea can affect your vision.

How is rosacea treated?

Your rosacea treatment plan depends on your specific symptoms and the severity of your rosacea. Before starting your treatment plan, your dedicated practitioner reviews your medical history with you to see if there’s a trigger in your diet, medications, or daily life that worsens your rosacea symptoms, so you know what to avoid.

One of the most modern and advanced treatments the clinic offers is a laser photofacial with the Sciton® laser. By using broadband light technology, this laser system gently minimizes the appearance of broken vessels and redness.

The team at Timeless Aesthetics MedSpa also offers SkinCeuticals® and Neocutis®, clinical-grade topical treatments for rosacea that further soothe rosacea flare-ups and improve the appearance of your skin.
